Mean Streets’ Multi-Sport Challenge Will Test Your Mettle, Says Cancerbackup

Instead of the usual Monday to Friday rat race why not join a weekend one in aid of Cancerbackup, the charity supporting thousands of people affected by cancer every year.

The takes place in London on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 September. Participants will see the city from a whole new angle through a series of physical challenges, testing their fitness and sense of adventure. Teams of three could see themselves abseil from office blocks, kayak under city bridges and bump and bruise their way down steps on mountain bikes.

“This is the ultimate urban sports challenge”, says Sarah Moses, Events Manager with Cancerbackup. “Teams of three will navigate their way through a surprise course in a thrilling but achievable multi-sport challenge. There will also be loads to do for those not racing, with giant TV screens showing the race, a live music stage, refreshment tents and even break dancing at the events village by Tower Bridge!”

Cancerbackup is the UK’s largest cancer information charity dedicated to providing anyone affected by cancer, including the friends and family of a patient, with information and support on any cancer. 4. Cancerbackup, as a charity, receives 54% of its funding from individuals, 11% from charitable trusts, 5% from grants, 14% from companies, 2% from investments and 14% from its trading company. Pharmaceutical companies contributed 9% of the total 2005/06 income.

5. In April 2006 Cancerbackup changed its name from CancerBACUP, so that the charity’s name better represents the service the charity provides: information, understanding and support to anyone affected by cancer.
